Welcome to Absolute Physical Therapy

Today is the beginning of a new step in my life. I will keep you posted every week with some news about headache, migraine, tinnitus and TMJ disfunction.
Sometimes you feel that you want to pull out your hair due to your headache or that annoying buzzing on your ear. Don’t worry! There is light at the end of the tunnel and it is not another train.
It is estimated that at least 12% percent of the adult population suffer from migraines and more than 50 million individuals will have at least one episode of headache during the year. Nearly 1 in 4 Americans will experience headaches or migraines during a year. Children also can get headache/migraine. Sometimes the migraine episode will manifest as a vestibular component such as dizziness, vertigo and Tinnitus.
Some Headaches and Migraines episodes are a result of a biomechanical fault caused by stress related, disturbances on the temporal mandibular joint, lack of postural control, after a whiplash episode, a cervical disk involvement or sleep disturbances.
Headaches/Migraines can be very debilitating and our goal is to help you understand it, find the best way to treat it, and to cope with it. If your symptoms do not improve with rest or your physician’s prescription Physical Therapy can help you decrease your pain and resume your function.

Pain

Welcome to the weekly Blog at Absolute Physical Therapy, LLC!
Disclosure: this blog is not intended to be used to diagnose any specific medical condition. For anything particular please seek the advice of your physician. It is merely for your information.
Most human beings feel pain — you are not alone in your pain pattern even though yours may be more severe than other individuals.
Pain is your body’s way of indicating that something needs attention. There are several theories to justify pain. It could be physical, emotional, behavioral, cognitive related, affective related, motivational, a result of a well described event, a somewhat relationship to some event from your past… who knows? There are many factors that can contribute to your pain.
Most of the pain related scales do not answer the questions about your own specific pain. Is it possible to measure your pain from 0 to 10? It probably will be a random number and if I were to ask 5 people with the same amount of pain, they may very likely tell me five different numbers. What it is important in the diagnosis of any issue is to know the location, frequency, intensity, pain pattern, what makes it better, what makes it worse.
Pain is unable to be quantified and or qualified. It is difficult to be describe, much like love, hate, anger, happiness, or sadness.
Recognizing the source of pain helps significantly the outcome of treatment. Understanding the various contributors to the patient’s distress can be used to develop a personalized treatment plan for the pain management. Try to keep a journal. Make sure that you write: location, intensity, frequency, quality, sensitivity to external factors, and amount of time it persists. This will help your health practitioner to develop a better treatment plan.
One more important point is that you should not compare the severity of your pain with your friends, spouse, or coworkers. Your pain is yours.
Wrapping up today’s blog, please make sure that you are also sleeping well, eating well, doing general exercises, doing breathing exercises and overall taking care of yourself.
Pain can be very debilitating and our goal is to help you understand it and help you find the best way to treat it and to cope with it.
I have been getting positive feedback from my previous posts but If you have a specific issue you would like to address, please contact us through facebook, twitter, linkedin, or Instagram.

Stay safe and healthy.

Headache, Neck Stiffness, Upper Back Pain

As many of us are working in environments outside their regular office for this past year, we may be experiencing headache, neck stiffness, and upper back pain, as the ergonomics of our home offices are not optimal. The video below will show some stretches and other ways to relieve this stiffness in your upper back. As with all of our recommended stretches, please consult your doctor prior to engaging in these physical activities. If you would like an ergonomic assessment of your office, please contact Absolute Physical Therapy, LLC at 703.725.4972 or drbass@absoluteptllc.com. Thank you for watching.

Posture

Today at the Absoluteptllc blog we are going to talk about posture. You probably now are recalling all the times your mom said “look at your posture!” or “Do you want to look like the hunchback of Notre Damme?”. But Posture is much more than that. It is the relationship between the body parts and their environment. You want your femur and tibia to be properly aligned so you can go up and down stairs without hurting. Posture involves the perfect interaction of your brain with your bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, and all the connective tissue.
When you drive your car, you want all the parts to be working well so you can get from point A to point B safely. When you are on a plane, you definitely want all the parts to be working well. Why would we treat our bodies differently?
Pierre Weil and Roland Tompakow in their book Notre corps parle : Le Langage silencieux de la communication non verbal point out that posture it is not only biomechanical correlations but also involved in your emotions like confidence and self-esteem.
Posture is a combination of your biomechanical structure with your emotional traits. It will change throughout the day based on your interpersonal relationships and your response to each stimulus from the environment. If you are sitting for a long time at the computer, you will change your posture several times to accommodate your body parts. If you go to an interview you will try to show yourself as confident and open and therefore have a solid, upright posture.
keep in tune that soon we will post an exercise that works the entire kinetic chain from your head to your toes. I like to do this exercise after a long day at work because it not only helps me to relax but also helps to maintain the muscles in their proper position so they can be more efficient.
